What is conversion therapy?

Conversion therapy is the pseudoscientific practice of trying to change an individual’s sexual orientation from homosexual or bisexual to heterosexual using psychological or spiritual interventions.

Dr. Michael Ferguson was the named plaintiff in the Ferguson v. JONAH lawsuit. Ferguson v. JONAH is the first (and, to date, the only) fraud lawsuit brought to court in the United States against a conversion therapy provider.

Following the success of Ferguson v. JONAH, Dr. Ferguson and his husband, J. Seth Anderson, have both continued their grassroots efforts to support other conversion therapy survivors as they overcome and heal from the insidious and acute traumas inflicted by conversion therapy. Dr. Ferguson and his husband co-authored an article about conversion therapy’s history and present-day havoc for the New England Journal of Medicine, which may be accessed here.

Defend. Heal. Strengthen.

Dr. Ferguson is currently organizing an End Conversion Therapy action summit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, to be held in Boston on September 29, 2020. The End Conversion Therapy action summit will be an effort to build a unified coalition across stakeholders at Harvard Medical School, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Divinity School. The vision for the End Conversion Therapy action summit is born from Dr. Ferguson’s conviction that illumination and purgation of conversion therapy from society will only be as successful as our willingness to work together across cultural institutions and unite in a grassroots movement that transcends individual organizations, personalities, and egos.
